BOARD
MODIFIES HOW THE OPERATIONS RESERVE IS FUNDED
26 NOVEMBER 2007
At its last meeting the Saluki Board of
Directors voted to modify how the club's Operations Reserve account is
funded. The account was created in September 2006 to build up a reserve of
operational funds. Current practice for businesses like Saluki indicate that
between 6 and 12 months of operational funds should be available for
possible long-term business downturns.
When it was created the Operations
Reserve was to be funded at the end of each fiscal year with at least 50% of
any surplus being transferred from the general account to the reserve. This
will continue and the addition of any amount in the Equipment account over
$5000 will also be transferred to the reserve.
This means that the equipment account
will begin the next fiscal year with $5000 in the account with equipment fee
charges being transferred in at the end of each training session throughout
the year. At the end of the fiscal year (31 August), and after all equipment
purchases for the year have been paid for, amounts in excess of $5000 are
transferred to the reserve.
This assures that a reasonable amount of
money is always available in the equipment account and will help fund the
reserve quicker than was originally planned. This will strengthen the club's
financial position significantly.
Beginning with the Winter 2008 session
the equipment fee charge will be renamed the "Equipment & Operations
Reserve" fee. The fee itself will remain the same.
