Saluki Swimmers Compete in Gator Great Times
Meet
Thirty-eight Saluki Swim Club
swimmers competed in the 2010 Gator Great Times Meet in Cape Girardeau, MO
November 5-7. As a team, Saluki swimmers achieved best times in 57% of
their races. In all Saluki swimmers achieved 66 B, 52 BB, 18 A, 5 AA, 2
AAA, and 5 Sectional qualifying times. Calvin Kolar qualified for the
Sectional championships in March. Cody Bailey, Sara Coello, Ryan Hall,
Calvin Kolar, and Ashlee Kuan qualified for the Ozark A Championship meet.
Cody Bailey, Charlie Beltran, Emma Chvatal, Sara Coello, Ashlee Kuan,
Cameron Kuan, Jerry Kuhnert, Cortney McCoskey, Abbey Oehlsen, Bella Snyder,
Emily Stroud, and Carrie Thompson qualified for the 14 and under Ozark
Division I Championship(BB time standard) in February.
Saluki Swim Club swimmers who
finished in the top 20 in individual events and scored points included:
Andrew Allen (14 yrs old) – 10th in the 500 free, 14th
in the 100 back, and 18th in the 200 IM; Aidan Anthony (11 yrs
old) – 18th in the 50 back and 19th in the 50 breast;
Cody Bailey (14 yrs old) – 3rd in the 200, 500, 1650 free, 4th
in the 1000 free, 5th in the 200 fly, 6th in the 100
free, 100 fly, 100 and 200 back; Charlie Beltran (14 yrs old) – 10th
in the 100 back, 12th in the 50 free, 15th in the 200
IM and 100 fly, 16th in the 200 back, 100 and 200 free, and 17th
in the 100 breast; Emma Chvatal (10 yrs old) – 12th in the 50
fly, 15th in the 200 IM, 17th in the 100 breast, 19th

old) – 10th in the 100 breast, 15th in the 200 breast
and 400 IM, and 19th in the 500 free; Sara Coello (14 yrs old) –
5th in the 100 fly, 11th in the 200 fly, 12th
in the 100 free, 14th in the 1000 free, 15th in the 50
free, 17th in the 200 and 500 free, and 20th in the
200 back; Kristopher Florer (15 yrs old) – 7th in the 200
breast, 12th in the 100 free, 13th in the 50 free, 200
IM, and 100 breast, and 14th in the 100 back, 100 fly and 200
free; Caleb Gomes (12 yrs old) – 7th in the 50 breast, 11th
in the 100 breast, 12th in the 200 and 500 free, 13th

Gomes (10 yrs old) – 13th in the 100 IM, 14th in the

old) – 1st in the 1000 free, 3rd in the 200 fly, 4th

the 100 IM, 10th in the 50 fly and 100 breast, 11th in
the 50 breast, 14th in the 50 free, 15th in the 100

in the 100 breast, 10th in the 100 back, 12th in the
50 breast, 200 free, and 200 IM, 15th in the 50 back, 16th

Yucus (12 yrs old) – 14th in the 50 breast and 100 IM, 15th
in the 100 breast, and 16th in the 50 back.
Saluki Swim Club relays which
scored points in the meet included: 10 & under girls – E. Chvatal, R.
Gomes, A. Jones, and B. Snyder finished 6th in the 200 medley
relay and 7th in the 200 free relay. 11-12 girls – A. Oehlsen,
E. Johnson, C. Thompson, and C. McCoskey finished 6th in the 200
medley and free relays. 11-12 boys – T. Yucus, C. Kuan, A. Anthony, and C.
Gomes finished 3rd in the 200 free relay. Yucus, Kuan, Gomes and
D. Henley finished 2nd in the medley relay. 13 & over girls – A.
Kuan, G. Gomes, S. Coello, and E. Stroud finished 4th in the 200
free relay. Kuan, S. Coello, A. Coello, and E. Stroud finished 4th
in the 200 medley relay. 13 & over boys – A. Andrew, C. Bailey, K. Florer,
and J. Kuhnert finished 2nd in the 200 free relay. C. Beltran,
Florer, Bailey, and M. Petrowich finished 4th in the 200 medley
relay.
Walker and Davis Compete at IHSA State
Championships
Saluki Swim Club swimmers Kelsie Walker and
Camille Davis represented their high schools at the IHSA State Swimming
Championship. Kelsie who is a freshman at Carbondale Community High School
finished 13th in the 500 free and 23rd in the 200
free. Camille who is a Junior at Goreville High School finished 25th
in the 100 back. Both girls qualified by winning their events at the IHSA
Sectional Meet.
Saluki Swimmers Excel in Competitive Ozark A
Championship
Seventeen Saluki Swim Club Swimmers
competed in the 2010 Ozark A Championship at the Shea Natatorium on the SIU
campus. As a team, Saluki Swim Club finished 9th out of 16
teams. In the meet, Saluki swimmers swam best times in 71% of their races.
They achieved 8 BB, 26 A, 31 AA, 14 AAA, 5 AAAA times, 17 Sectional cuts and
1 Junior National time. Calvin Kolar qualified for the 2010 Junior National
Championship in the 200 breast and won the high point award for the 15 &
over boys’ age group. Stephen Cohen, Camille Davis, Calvin Kolar, Darlene
Sao and Kelsie Walker all swam times fast enough to qualify for the
Sectional championships in March. Camille Davis and Jacob Stone each set a
new team record in their respective age groups. Cody Bailey, Stephen Cohen,
Camille Davis, Calvin Kolar, Darlene Sao, Jacob Stone, and Kelsie Walker all
added their names to the Saluki Top 5 list in their respective age groups.
Swimmer who finished in the top 16 in individual
events included: Cody Bailey (14 yrs old) – 10th
in the 1000 free, 13th in the 500 free, and 15th in
the 100 free; Sara Coello (14 yrs old) – 12th in the 100 fly;
Stephen Cohen (18 yrs old) – 7th in the 50 free, 10th
in the 100 free, 12th in the 200 free, 13th in the 100
fly, and 16th in the 500 free; Camille Davis (16 yrs old) – 9th
in the 200 back; Calvin Kolar (18 yrs old) – 1st in the 100 and
200 breast, 2nd in the 100 free and 200 IM, 4th in the
200 free, and 5th in the 50 free; Ashlee Kuan (14 yrs old) – 16th
in the 400 IM and 200 back; Jerry Kuhnert (14 yrs old) – 10th
in the 50 free, 11th in the 100 free and 14th in the
200 IM; Darlene Sao (17 yrs old) – 9th in the 50 free, 10th
in the 100 breast, 11th in the 100 free, and 13th in
the 200 IM; Bella Snyder (9 yrs old) – 8th in the 50 fly; Jacob
Stone (13 yrs old) – 6th in the 50 free and 200 breast, 9th
in the 500 and 1000 free, 10th in the 100 free, and 11th
in the 200 free; Kelsie Walker (14 yrs old) – 3rd in the 100
free and 6th in the 1000 free.
Saluki Swim Club relays also scored points
in the meet. The relay team of Jacob Stone, Cody Bailey, Charlie Beltran,
and Jerry Kuhnert finished 4th in the 400 medley and 400 free
relays. The relay team of Calvin Kolar, Stephen Cohen, Ryan Hall, and
Caseton Luthy finished 7th in the 400 medley relay and 9th
in the 400 free relay. This relay team swam times fast enough to qualify
for the Sectional Championship in March. The relay team of Emily Stroud,
Sara Coello, Ashlee Kuan, and Kelsie Walker finished 5th in the
400 free relay. The relay team of Stroud, Coello, Kuan, and Amelia Coello
finished 8th in the 400 medley relay.
