Saluki Swim Club Finishes Eleventh in Saluki International                                                       May, 2009

Last weekend, fifty-one Saluki Swim Club swimmers competed in a very competitive field of 550 swimmers in the Saluki International at SIU Student Recreation Center.  Saluki swimmers scored 92 points and finished 11th out of 19 teams.  In the meet, Saluki Swim Club swimmer Elizabeth Bell swam fast enough to qualify for the Summer Sectional Long Course Championships in Columbia, MO.  Nineteen Saluki swimmers including Elizabeth Bell, Camille Davis, Braci Dutton, Ryan Hall, Trevor Jones, Jared King, Calvin Kolar, Ashlee Kuan, Cameron Kuan, Caseton Luthy, Matthew McAuliffe, Courtney McCoskey, Darlene Sao, Austyn Sigler, Jacob Stone, Michael Stone, Emily Stroud, Kelsie Walker, and Kyle Walker swam times fast enough to qualify for the Ozark Long Course Championships in July in Carbondale, IL.  In all, these nineteen swimmers swam 65 Ozark cut times in the meet.  As a team, Saluki Swim Club achieved 96 B times, 73 BB times, 27 A times, 9 AA times, 3 AAA times, and 1 AAAA time.  Saluki Swim Club swimmer achieved best times in 79% of their races. 

Saluki Swim Club swimmers who finished in the top 8 in their respective age groups and scored points for the team included:  Elizabeth Bell (17 yrs old) – 1st in the 50 free, 2nd in the 100 free and 100 fly, 3rd in the 100 breast, 4th in the 200 IM, and 5th in the 200 breast;   Camille Davis (15 yrs old) – 7th in the 200 back; Braci Dutton (15 yrs old) – 4th in the 50 free; Calvin Kolar (16 yrs old) – 5th in the 200 breast and 7th in the 100 breast; Cameron Kuan (9 yrs old) – 8th in the 100 free; Matthew McAuliffe (12 yrs old) – 6th in the 50 and 100 fly and 8th in the 100 breast; Darlene Sao (15 yrs old) – 7th in the 400 IM; Jacob Stone (11 yrs old) – 6th in the 100 breast and 200 free, 7th in the 50 breast and 400 free, and 8th in the 100 back, 50 and 100 free; Kelsie Walker (13 yrs old) – 3rd in the 200 fly and 400 free, 4th in the 100 free, and 8th in the 400 IM.

Several Saluki swimmers achieved lifetime best times in every event they swam.  These swimmers include: Cody Bailey, Marlie Bruns, Lucas Davis, Ryan Hall, Sarah Hall, Daniel Henley, Brett Jackson, Alexis Jones, Shelby Jones, Trevor Jones, Faith King, Jared King, Ashlee Kuan, Luke Lauzon, Caseton Luthy, Matthew McAuliffe, Miranda Payne, Nina Pemberton, Emily Stroud, Elizabeth Tang, and Kyle Walker.

 

Saluki Swim Club Finishes Fourth in Gator Long Course Kick-off Meet                                                                                                                                          May 5, 2009

                Twenty Saluki Swim Club swimmers competed last weekend in the Gator Long Course Kickoff Meet in Cape Girardeau, MO.  As a team Saluki Swim Club finished 4th overall behind the host club, Gator Swim Team, FAST and Parkway  of St. Louis.  In all, nine Saluki swimmers achieved times fast enough to qualify them to compete in the Ozark Championships held in Carbondale in July.  Camille Davis, Ashlee Kuan, Cameron Kuan, Jerry Kuhnert, Matthew McAuliffe, Courtney McCoskey, Jacob Stone, Michael Stone, and Kelsie Walker qualified for the Ozark Championships in their first meet of the season.  As a team, Saluki swimmers achieved 33 Ozark qualifying times, 40 B times, 24 BB times, 18 A times, and 3 AA times.  Also Saluki swimmers swam 118 best times or best times in 86% of their swims.

                Saluki swimmers who scored points by finishing in the Top Eight in individual events include:  Ty Buchmeier (8 years old) – 1st in the 50 breast and back and 2nd in the 50 and 100 free; Ryan Burgener (16 years old) – 8th in the 100 breast; Simone Corpora (14 years old) – 7th in the 100 free; Camille Davis (15 years old) – 1st in the 100 back, 2nd in the 200 free, 4th in the 100 breast and 50 free, and 5th in the 100 free; Kristie Huff (16 years old) – 6th in the 100 breast; Ashlee Kuan (12 years old) – 3rd in the 100 back, 4th in the 100 breast and 200 back, 5th in the 200 breast, and 8th in the 200 IM, 50 and 100 free; Jerry Kuhnert (12 years old) – 1st in the 100 breast, 2nd in the 200 breast, and 6th in the 50 free; Matthew McAuliffe (12 years old) – 5th in the 100 fly and 7th in the 50 free; Courtney McCoskey (10 years old) – 5th in the 50 back, and 8th in the 50 and 100 breast; Nick Raubach (15 years old) – 4th in the 100 breast, 5th in the 100 back, and 8th in the 50 free; Jacob Stone (11 years old) – 2nd in the 800 free, 3rd in the 50 free and 200 breast, 4th in the 400 free, 100 back and breast, 5th in the 400 IM, and 6th in the 200 IM and back; Michael Stone (14 years old) – 5th in the 50 free and 7th in the 100 free; Kelsie Walker (13 years old) – 2nd in the 100 and 1500 free, 3rd in the 100 fly, 5th in the 400 IM, 6th in the 400 free, and 7th in the 200 IM, 200 back, 50 and 200 free. 

                Also a special congratulations to the following swimmers who added their names to the Saluki Top 5:  Camille Davis (100 back), Ashlee Kuan (100 and 200 back), Jerry Kuhnert (100 and 200 breast), Jacob Stone (800 free, 200 and 400 IM, 100 and 200 breast, 100 and 200 back), and Kelsie Walker (200 fly, 400 IM, and 1500 free).
