Groups are Taught by Claire Strock

The beginner groups in the Saluki Swim
School are taught by Claire Strock. Claire is a former Saluki Racing Team
member and SIU athlete, and is currently enrolled at SIU studying Psychology
and Therapeutic Recreation.
Walker
Sets New Mark in 200 Fly; Saluki Racing Team Turns in Five New 'A' Times

Kelsie Walker sped to a new record for
12 & under girls in the 200m butterfly over the weekend at the Gator
Firecracker Frenzy. Walker eclipsed the mark set by Taylor Tripp in 2004
with a new time of 2:58.6.
Other Saluki hotshots achieved 18 new
National Age Group Times with 5 new 'A' swims. Turning in their first-time
'A' swims were: Elizabeth Bell in the 200 backstroke; Speed Davis in the 100
butterfly; Halli Lincoln in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly and Kelsie
Walker in the 200 butterfly.
Speed Davis also qualified for the
Central Zone Championship by virtue of her NAG 'AAA' time in the 100
backstroke.
Three Saluki also won high point honors
in their age group: Katie Cully won the 8 & under girls division along with
Jake Stone for the 9-10 boys and Speed Davis for the 13-14 girls.

Firecracker Frenzy: Change in AM
Warm up Times and Other Notes
23 JUNE 2008
The Gators have notified us that the AM
session for this weekends Firecracker Frenzy has been shifted 1 hour later
than originally published. AM warm up will now begin at 8:00a with the meet
starting at 9:00a.
The Gator's have also added 50m time
trials to the end of the Saturday AM and Sunday PM sessions so that athletes
can have one final chance to qualify for the Ozark Championship. Athletes
wishing to time trial a 50 must already be entered in the meet and should let
Saluki HQ know as soon as possible.
Finally, there are still tickets
available at a reduced price of $6 for the Red, White & Blue BBQ. Anyone
interested should
download the meet info and mail the ticket preorder no later than 24
June. Tickets will be available at the regular price of $8 at the meet.

Stroke
Development Groups Are Led by Abby Blank

Our stroke development groups are taught
by former SIU athlete, Abby Blank. Abby graduated with a degree in
Creative Writing and will begin her graduate studies closer to home in Idaho
in the Fall. There is still
space left in stroke development classes that begin in July (and all other

active groups in our swim school program are taught by Angela Kazakevicius.
Ozark Championship Will be Back
at Shea in July

The Gator Swim Team from Cape
Girardeau and the Saluki Swim Club will once again co-host the Ozark Long
Course Swimming Championship from 25 to 27 July at Shea Natatorium. This is
the penultimate meet for many of the athletes prior to the Central Zone
Championship that will be held in Indianapolis beginning on 6 August. The
Saluki deadline to register for the Ozark meet is
Wednesday, 9 July.
Michelle
Park Awareness Day Held at Pulliam

Following a long Saluki tradition of
almost a year the Pulliam training groups observed Michelle Park Awareness
Day yesterday. Michelle and her family will be moving to Atlanta later this
summer. To show how much they will miss Michelle the group had an
abbreviated practice and then gorged itself on pizza, cookies, soda and
water balloons. Recipient of the most direct hits by a water balloon was
Joon Choi who looked like he fell back into the pool by the time he left for
home.
Registration for Late June and July Classes is Open

With most June Swim School classes
underway registration for remaining summer classes is open.
We have another 2-week cycle beginning
on 23 June and a full schedule of classes during July. Currently all classes
beginning after 23 June have spots available.

Deadline to Register for Gator
Firecracker Frenzy is Wednesday, 11 June

The final opportunity of the summer to
get those Ozark Qs will be at the Gator Firecracker Frenzy from 27-29 June.
The deadline to register for this meet is Wednesday,
11 June. The meet will be held at the familiar Cape Central pool but
without the bubble surrounding the place.
Swim School Summer Session Starts
on Monday, 9 June

The summer session of the Saluki
Swim School begins on Monday, 9 June in Pulliam pool. There are still a few
openings in most classes. Classes offered include Parent/Child, Preschool,
Beginner and Stroke Development.

Small
Saluki Squad Turns in Good Times at St. Peter's
02 JUNE 2008
A small but determined Saluki
squad achieved 7 new National Age Group time standards including 2 new 'A'
times over the weekend. Darren Hale and Ashlee Kuan turned in first-time
'A's in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke respectively.
Kuan also had the largest time drop in
the meet when she slashed almost 8 seconds from her previous best in the 50
backstroke. She also took a little over 7 seconds from her previous time in
the 50 breaststroke. Hale was close behind with 5 second drops in both his
200 IM and 200 freestyle.
The Saluki Racing Team will be in action
again at the Gator Firecracker Frenzy later this month. The deadline to
register for the Gator meet is Wednesday, 11 June.
