Saluki Swimmers Score in June Competitions
June, 2009

A total of nine Saluki Swim
Club swimmers competed in two different competitions last weekend. Eight
swimmers traveled to Pensacola, FL to compete in the 2009 Tom Lalor
Invitational and one swimmer competed in the Parkway Summer Sizzler in St.
Louis, MO. In all Saluki swimmers achieved 6 B times, 13 BB times, 6 A
times, 9 AA times, 2 AAA times, 1 AAAA time while achieving lifetime best
times in 40 % of their races. Eight Saluki swimmers achieved 23 Ozark
qualifying times and three of those swimmers also achieved 9 Sectional
qualifying times.
In the Lalor Invitational,
the following swimmers finished in the top 8 overall for their respective
age groups: Elizabeth Bell (17 years old) finished 1st in the
100 fly, 50 free and 200 IM, 2nd in the 50 fly, 100 and 200
breast, 3rd in the 50 breast, and 5th in the 100
free; Camille Davis (15 years old) finished 8th in the 50 back;
Thomas Gibson (20 years old) finished 1st in the 100 breast, 2nd
in the 50 breast, and 4th in the 200 breast; Calvin Kolar (16
years old) finished 6th in the 200 breast, 7th in the
100 breast, and 8th in the 50 breast; Austyn Sigler (15 years
old) finished 5th in the 50 breast and 7th in the 100
breast. In the Parkway Summer Sizzler, Tyler Underwood (11 years old)
finished 16th in the 100 breast and scored points in the meet.
The Saluki
Swim Club swimmers will be in action again in two weeks. Saluki swimmers
will compete in the CSP Summer Invitational in St. Louis, MO. Many Saluki
swimmers will also compete in the Ozark Long Course Championships July 17-19
at the Shea Natatorium on the SIU Campus.

Summer Invitational
June, 2009
Four Saluki Swim Club swimmers competed in
the 2009 CSP Summer Invitational over the weekend. This three day
competition involved preliminary sessions in the morning and a finals
session each evening where the top finishers (top 16 13-14 year olds and top
24 15 years and older swimmers) from the prelims compete again. In all
Saluki Swim Club swimmers achieved 2 B times, 4 BB times, 4 A times, 7 AA
times, 14 Ozark qualifying times, and 2 Sectional qualifying times.
Saluki Swim Club finalist included:
sixteen year old Calvin Kolar who finished 7th in the 200 breast
and 16th in the 100 breast; twenty year old Thomas Gibson who
finished 3rd in the 100 breast and 4th in the 200
breast; and thirteen year old Kelsie Walker finished 7th in the
100 and 200 free, 8th in the 100 and 200 fly, 13th in
the 50 free, 14th in the 400 free, and 16th in the 200
IM. Also competing in the meet and achieving lifetime best times was
sixteen year old Kyle Walker.
