Saluki Swimmers Compete in IHSA Boys’ Sectional Meet:  Kolar Qualifies for 2010 IHSA State Championships                                                                                         February, 2010

            Five Saluki Swimmers competed for their respective High Schools in Champaign, IL on Saturday.  Junior Calvin Kolar of Carbondale Community High School finished 1st in the 100 breast and qualified to compete in this event at the IHSA State Championship Meet this weekend in Evanston, IL.  Kolar also finished 3rd in the 200 IM.  Junior Kyle Walker of Carbondale Community High School finished 4th in the 500 free and 10th in the 100 back.  Sophomore Ryan Hall of Herrin High School finished 6th in the 500 free and 9th in the 200 IM.  Junior Jared King of Herrin High School finished 11th in the 100 fly and 16th in the 100 breast.  Sophomore Brett Jackson of Johnson City High School finished 16th in the 100 free and 20th in the 100 breast.

 

 

Saluki Swimmers Compete in 2010 Gator Great Times Invitational                         February, 2010

            Thirty-eight Saluki Swim Club swimmers competed in the 2010 Gator Great Times Invitational February 5-7 in Cape Girardeau, MO.  In the meet Saluki swimmers achieved 54 B times, 28 BB times, 9 A times, 8 AA times, 3 AAA times, and lifetime best times in 53% of their swims.  Three Saluki swimmers (Elizabeth Bell, Calvin Kolar, and Kelsie Walker) achieved 7 Sectional qualifying times.  Twelve swimmers including Stephen Cohen, Ryan Hall, Ashlee Kuan, Cameron Kuan, Jerry Kuhnert, Courtney McCoskey, Emily Stroud, Steven Thompson, and Kyle Walker achieved 33 Ozark qualifying times. 

            Saluki swimmers who finished in the top 16 in individual events included:  Elizabeth Bell (18 years old) - 1st in the 200 IM and 100 free; Ty Buchmeier (8 years old) – 2nd in the 25 fly, 25 back, 25 breast, 100 IM, 25 and 50 free;  Stephen Cohen (17 years old) – 2nd in the 50 free and 100 breast, 3rd in the 100 free, 6th in the 100 fly, 8th in the 200 free;  Annika Gally (8 years old) – 6th in the 25 fly and 25 breast, 7th in the 100 IM, 8th in the 25 free, 9th in the 50 free and 25 back;  Caleb Gomes (11 years old) – 8th in the 200 free, 12th in the 100 breast, 13th in the 100 IM, 14th in the 50 back and 200 IM, 15th in the 50 free, 16th in the 50 breast; David Gomes (7 years old) – 14th in the 25 free and 16th in the 50 free; Jonathan Gomes (7 years old) – 15th in the 50 free and 16th in the 25 free;  Ryan Hall (15 years old) – 4th in the 1000 free, 5th in the 400 IM, 6th in the 1650 free, 8th in the 500 free, 9th in the 200 fly;  Sarah Hall (18 years old) – 4th in the 200 fly, 9th in the 100 breast, 11th in the 100 fly, 12th in the 200 IM, 14th in the 50 free, 16th in the 200 breast;  Daniel Henley (11 years old) – 13th in the 100 back, 15th in the 100 IM; Kristie Huff (16 years old) – 7th in the 200 back, 8th in the 500 free, 10th in the 200 free, 13th in the 50 free, 15th in the 100 back and 200 IM;  Brett Jackson (16 years old) – 13th in the 500 free;  Stephanie Jaros (15 years old) – 9th in the 500 free, 10th in the 100 breast, 12th in the 100 fly, 13th in the 100 back, 14th in the 200 free, 16th in the 50 free and 200 IM; Leeann Jones (15 years old) – 6th in the 200 back, 11th in the 100 back, 12th in the 200 free, 13th in the 100 fly, 15th in the 50 free;  Calvin Kolar (17 years old) – 1st in the 200 IM, 50 and 100 free, 100 and 200 breast;  Ashlee Kuan (13 years old) – 5th in the 200 back, 6th in the 100 back, 11th in the 100 fly, 200 IM, and 100 breast, 12th in the 200 breast and 200 fly, 14th in the 50 free;  Cameron Kuan (10 years old) – 6th in the 100 free, 7th in the 200 IM, 8th in the 50 back, 9th in the 50 free;  Jerry Kuhnert (13 years old) – 6th in the 100 breast and 200 IM, 7th in the 200 back, 10th in the 100 free, 14th in the 50 free, 15th in the 200 free;  Courtney McCoskey (11 years old) – 7th in the 50 back, 11th in the 50 fly, 12th in the 100 back, 15th in the 50 breast, 16th in the 200 free;  James Medwedeff (14 years old) – 11th in the 200 back, 13th in the 100 back and 200 IM; Abigail Oehlsen (10 years old) – 13th in the 50 free, 15th in the 100 IM and 200 free;  Grace Rigney (11 years old) – 10th in the 50 breast;  Bella Snyder (8 years old) – 2nd in the 25 breast, 25 and 50 free, 3rd in the 200 free, 5th in the 25 back, 25 fly, and 100 IM;  Emily Stroud (13 years old) – 5th in the 100 back, 8th in the 200 back, 9th in the 100 free, 11th in the 50 free, 15th in the 200 free;  Steven Thompson (10 years old) – 7th in the 50 free, 100 breast, 100 back, 8th in the 200 IM, 9th in the 50 breast, 10th in the 100 and 200 free, 15th in the 50 back;  Kelsie Walker (13 years old) – 2nd in the 400 IM, 3rd in the 1000 free; Kyle Walker (16 years old) – 3rd in the 1000 free; Taylor Yucus (11 years old) – 14th in the 50 free.

            Saluki Swim Club relays that finished in the top 8 included:  13 & over boys’ relay team of Stephen Cohen, Ryan Hall, Brett Jackson, and Calvin Kolar who finished 3rd in the 200 medley and 200 free relays; 11-12 boys’ relay team of Connor McPeek, Caleb Gomes, Daniel Henley, and Taylor Yucus who finished 3rd in the 200 medley relay and 4th in the 200 free relay; the 11-12 girls’ relay team of Grace Rigney, Harley Crawshaw, Kassi Jones, and Courtney McCoskey who finished 6th in the 200 free relay;  the 13 and over girls’ relay team of Leeann Jones, Ashlee Kuan, Sarah Hall, and Emily Stroud who finished 6th in the 200 free relay;  the 10 & under girls’ relay team of Rachel Gomes, Bella Snyder, Abigail Oehlsen, and Annika Gally who finished 7th in the 200 medley relay; 10 & under girls’ relay team of Emma Chvatal, Alexis Jones, Rachel Gomes, and Abigail Oehlsen who finished 8th in the 200 free relay.
