Saluki Swimmers Finish Tenth in Ozark
Division I Championships
Fourteen Saluki
Swim Club swimmers competed in the Ozark Division I Championships last
weekend in St. Peters, MO. As a team, Saluki Swim Club finished 10th
out of 22 teams. The swimmers achieved best times in 43% of their races and
achieved 6 B times, 39 BB times, 33 A times, 5 AA times, and 1 AAA time.
Swimmers who finished in the top 16 in their individual events included:
Cody Bailey (14 years old) – 3rd in the 200 fly, 7th
in the 1650 free, 10th in the 100 fly, and 16th in the
500 free; Ashlee Kuan (14 years old) – 14th in the 200 fly;
Cameron Kuan (11 years old) – 12th in the 100 free and 15th
in the 200 free; Jerry Kuhnert (14 years old) – 3rd in the 100
breast, 6th in the 200 breast, 9th in the 200 IM and
100 free, and 10th in the 50 free; Bella Snyder (9 years old) –
9th in the 200 IM and 200 free, 11th in the 50 free,
15th in the 100 free and 100 breast, and 16th in the
100 back; Jacob Stone (13 years old) – 9th in the 100 breast and
12th in the 500 free; Emily Stroud (14 years old) – 15th
in the 100 back; Joyce Yang (9 years old) – 9th in the 100
breast.
The relay team of
Elizabeth Tang, Joyce Yang, Bella Snyder, and Clair Boget finished 8th
in the 10 & under 200 medley relay and the relay team of Snyder, Tang, Emma
Chvatal, and Boget finished 11th in the 200 free relay. Saluki
Swim Club will wrap up the short course season at the Region 8 Sectional
Championship in Oklahoma City, OK.
Saluki Swim Club Swimmers Represent Their
Respective High Schools at IHSA Sectionals
Four Saluki Swim Club swimmers competed in
the 2011 IHSA Sectional swim meet in Champaign, IL. Calvin Kolar and Elbert
Simon represented Carbondale Community High School, Ryan Hall represented
Herrin High School and Brett Jackson represented Johnston City High School.
Calvin Kolar finished 2nd in the 200 free and 100 breast and swam
times fast enough to qualify for the IHSA State Championships. Ryan Hall
finished 4th in the 500 free and 5th in the 200 IM.
Brett Jackson finished 12th in the 100 free and 16th
in the 100 breast. Elbert Simon finished 19th in the 100 free
and 20th in the 100 back.
Saluki Swimmers Compete in Ozark Division II Championship
Seven Saluki Swim Club swimmers competed in
the first Ozark Division II Championship. Amelia Coello, Sara Coello, Ryan
Hall, Maverick Petrowich, Austyn Sigler, Athena Wrenn, and Maggie Yewell
achieved 6 B times, 14 BB times, and 3 A times. These swimmers achieved
best times in 59% of their races. Saluki swimmers who finished in the top
16 included: Amelia Coello (13 years old) – 11th in the 100
breast; Sara Coello (15 years old) – 8th in the 200 fly, 10th
in the 200 free, and 11th in the 100 fly; Austyn Sigler (17 years
old) – 10th in the 200 breast. Amelia Coello swam fast enough in
the 100 breast to qualify for the Ozark Division I Championship.
