Saluki Swim Club Wins the 2009 Tri-State
Championship

Last weekend, fifty-four
Saluki swimmers lead the team to a victory over three other teams. Saluki
Swim Club scored 545.5 to Paducah Swim Team’s 178, SEAL’s 151, and Gator
Swim Team’s 136. Eleven Saluki swimmers (Sara Coello, Stephen Cohen, Ashlee
Kuan, Cameron Kuan, Darlene Sao, Joan Shang, Austyn Sigler, Jacob Stone,
Emily Stroud, Kelsie Walker, and Daniel Yang) achieved 21 Ozark qualifying
times in the meet. In all Saluki swimmers achieved 47 B times, 34 BB times,
8 A times, and 5 AA times. In all Saluki swimmers swam personal lifetime
best times in 44% of their races.
Saluki swimmers who scored
points in the meet included: Bethany Akinduro (9) – 2nd in the
50 breast and 5th in the 50 free; Aidan Anthony (10) – 4th
in the 50 breast; Cody Bailey (13) – 2nd in the 200 IM, 100 fly,
100 and 200 free; Parker Barden (8) – 3rd in the 25 free and 25
back; Daniel Burgener (12) – 2nd in the 200 free and 3rd
in the 100 free; Amelia Coello (12) – 1st in the 50 back, 2nd
in the 50 free, and 3rd in the 50 fly and 100 IM; Louisa Coello
(10) – 5th in the 50 fly; Sara Coello (13) – 2nd in
the 100 fly; Stephen Cohen (17) – 1st in the 200 IM, 100 free,
and 100 breast and 2nd in the 50 free; Simone Corpora (14) – 2nd
in the 100 breast; Harley Crawshaw (11) – 4th in the 50 fly and
50 back; Charlee Furlow (11) – 2nd in the 50 breast; Annika
Gally (7) – 1st in the 25 back, 2nd in the 25 free, 3rd
in the 25 fly and 25 breast; Kristie Huff (16) – 2nd in the 200
free; Brett Jackson (16) – 6th in the 200 free; Alexis Jones (

fly, and 25 breast, and 3rd in the 100 IM; Austin Stogsdill (16)
– 4th in the 200 IM; Jacob Stone (12) – 1st in the
200 Free, 100 IM, 50 fly and 50 back; Emily Stroud (13) – 1st in
the 200 free, 2nd in the 50 free and 100 back; Tyler Underwood
(12) – 2nd in the 100 free, 4th in the 50 free and 100
IM; Kelsie Walker (13) – 1st in the 200 IM, 100 fly, 50 and 100
free; Kyle Walker (16) - 2nd in the 100 back; Daniel Yang (12)
– 1st in the 50 breast, 2nd in the 50 free and 50
back, and 3rd in the 50 fly; Zoe Yeshayahu (12) – 3rd
in the 50 breast; Taylor Yucus (11) – 5th in the 50 breast.
Saluki Swim Club relays that
won their events included: the relay team of Melana Quarles, Bella Snyder,
Annika Gally, and Chloe Bailey won the 8 and under girls’ 100 medley and 100
free relays; the relay team of Aidan Anthony, Luke Lauzon, Cameron Kuan,
and Marcos Lightfoot won the 9-10 boys’ 200 free relay; the relay team of
Grace Rigney, Charlee Furlow, Amelia Coello, and Kassi Jones won the 11-12
girls’ 200 medley relay and 200 free relay; the relay team of Daniel
Burgener, Daniel Yang, Jacob Stone, and Tyler Underwood won the 11-12 boys’
200 medley relay; the relay team of Taylor Yucus, Daniel Yang, Daniel
Henley, and Daniel Burgener won the 11-12 boys’ 200 free relay; the relay
team of Ashlee Kuan, Miranda Payne, Kelsie Walker, and Rohini Gupta won the
13-14 girls’ 200 medley relay; the relay team of Isheng Hou, Simone
Corpora, Elizabeth Hensley, and Miranda Payne won the 13-14 girls’ 200 free
relay; the relay team of Natalie San, Austyn Sigler, Joan Shang, and
Darlene Sao won the 15 and over 200 medley relay; the relay team of Kristie
Huff, Stephanie Jaros, Austyn Sigler, and Joan Shang won the 15 and over
girls’ 200 free relay; the relay team of Kyle Walker, Caseton Luthy, Jared
King, and Brett Jackson won the 15 and over boys’ 200 medley relay; the
relay team of Kyle Walker, Jack Krause, Jared King, and Brett Jackson won
the 15 and over boys’ 200 free relay.
Saluki Swimmers Place in Tennessee Meet of Champs
December, 2009
Nine Saluki Swim Club swimmers traveled to Brentwood, TN to
compete in the Southeastern Swimming Meet of Champs, December 4-6. This
competition was a prelim/final meet. All swimmers compete in the prelim
session in the morning. The top 16 finishers compete again in the finals
that evening. Saluki swimmers achieved lifetime best times in 59% of their
races. Altogether Saluki swimmers achieved 1 Junior National qualifying
time, 16 Sectional qualifying times, 47 Ozark qualifying times, 1 AAAA, 12
AAA, 22 AA, 12 A, 11 BB, 10 B times.
Saluki Swim Club was lead by
seventeen year old Elizabeth Bell who won the high point award for the
Senior girls’ age group. Elizabeth finished 1st in the 100 fly,
200 breast, 50 and 100 free, 2nd in the 100 breast and 200 IM,
and 3rd in the 200 free and 100 back. Elizabeth also achieved 1
Junior National qualifying time and 8 Sectional qualifying times. Other
Saluki swimmers who finished in the top 16 in the meet included: Camille
Davis (15 years old) – 2nd in the 100 back, 5th in the
200 back, 11th in the 500 free, 12th in the 200 free,
14th in the 100 fly, 15th in the 100 free, and 16th
in the 50 free. Camille achieved 2 sectional qualifying times and 7 Ozark
qualifying times. Ryan Hall (15 years old) – 11th in the 1650
free. Ryan achieved 1 Ozark qualifying time.
Calvin Kolar (17 years old) – 2nd
in the 200 free and 200 breast, 3rd in the 100 breast and the 100
free, 6th in the 100 back and 200 IM, 7th in the 400
IM, and 9th in the 50 free. Calvin achieved 4 Sectional
qualifying times and 8 Ozark qualifying times. Darlene Sao (16 years old) –
13th in the 200 breast and 200 IM and 16th in the 100
back and the 500 free. Darlene achieved 6 Ozark qualifying times. Jacob
Stone (12 years old) – 2nd in the 50 and 100 breast, 3rd
in the 1000 free, 5th in the 50 back, 100, 200, and 500 free, and
6th in the 50 free. Jacob achieved 7 Ozark qualifying times.
Kelsie Walker (13 years old) – 1st in the 200 fly and 500 free, 3rd
in the 200 free and 400 IM, 7th in the 100 free, 8th
in the 100 fly, 9th in the 200 IM, and 12th in the 50
free. Kelsie achieved 2 Sectional qualifying times and 8 Ozark qualifying
times. Kyle Walker (16 years old) - 9th in the 1650 free. Kyle
achieved 2 Ozark qualifying times.
Jacob Stone also broke the
team record for the 11-12 boys 1000 free. Jacob, Elizabeth Bell, Camille
Davis, Calvin Kolar, Kelsie Walker and Kyle Walker all added their names to
the Saluki Top 5 in their respective age groups.
The relay team of Kelsie
Walker, Darlene Sao, Camille Davis, and Elizabeth Bell finished 1st
in the 400 free relay and 2nd in the 400 Medley Relay. The
girls’ relay team qualified for Sectionals in both relays. The relay team
of Ryan Hall, Jacob Stone, Calvin Kolar, and Kyle Walker finished 6th
in the 400 free relay and 8th in the 400 Medley Relay.
